​Voice Disorder - Explained

A condition that affects the quality of voice because of various factors. This condition is very much significant for voice professionals for the sole reason that it affects their job and the major cause of absenteeism. This condition will alter the quality of voice and will be far from their normal voice.

​​​Swallowing Disorder - Explained

The indicating symptoms of dysphagia or swallowing problem could be coughing or choking while eating, or trying to drink. This could happen every time or could be with certain foods or liquid with a particular consistency.   It could be due to an age-related problem [ muscle weakness ] or after some surgeries or illnesses.


Swallowing food is a complex process involving many organs and muscles.  Starting from looking at the food, when the brain sends signals to prepare the gut to receive, closing the airway to avoid food entering in to it, masticate or to grind with teeth, the tongue rotating for proper mixing with saliva for breaking down the food in to simpler form and helping in lubricating the gut for smoother passage of food to the stomach where further breaking down of food takes place which is then sent to the small intestine for absorption of nutrients.


Occasional difficulty in swallowing, which may occur while eating too fast or talking and eating, not chewing food enough, usually isn’t cause for concern. But persistent dysphagia means it takes more time and effort to move food or liquid, may require treatment. It  may also lead to malnourishment and dehydration which further weakens the patient, prolonging the recovery. Even though Dysphagia can occur at any age, it’s more commonly seen in older adults. The causes or swallowing problems or dysphagia may vary, and treatment depends on the cause.

​Tinnitus - Explained

Tinnitus itself is not a disease, but it’s a common symptom associated with the perception of sound or sounds, either intermittent or continuous in one or both ears. Its pitch can go from a low roar to a high squeal or it can have many sounds.

It’s been estimated that Over 35 to 45 million people have experienced tinnitus or head noises, Among them, one in five people with tinnitus have bothersome tinnitus, which distresses them and negatively affects their quality of life and functional health status. People with persistent and bothersome tinnitus will often seek medical care. Persistent tinnitus is that lasts more than six months. 


Prior to any treatment, it is important to undergo a thorough examination and evaluation by your otolaryngologist (ENT doctor) and audiologist, to assess the extent of problem.

​Hearing Loss - Explained

Ear as an organ for hearing is a vital medium for communication. The sound wave which is converged  by the funnel like pinna sending it to the middle ear having the eardrum, which vibrates along with the 3 ossicles or tiny bones and convert the signals into electric impulses to be sent to the brain for understanding. Any problem anywhere in this process can lead to loss of hearing.

Sudden hearing loss is not a common occurrence, but more often it develops gradually, till the patient fails to notice that they are missing out subtle everyday sounds such as a ticking clock or a rustling newspaper, currency etc. By the time it’s moderate to severe, the patient finds it’s difficult to comprehend or follow speech which is often noticed by the patient’s family members and close aids, who had to repeat to make them heard.
