our communication based world, effective oral expression is of paramount
importance. Nothing can surpass the ability of the voice to convey expression.
A healthy voice is critical for an individual's professional and personal
well being. In our voice clinic we diagnose and treat disorders that
effect the voice box. We utilize the current state of art equipment
to keep your voice strong, healthy and original. Our mission is simple
to prevent injury and rehabilitate a person who has a voice problem. |

VOCAL HYGIENE PROGRAM - TIPS FOR A HEALTHY VOICE
|
1.
Speak in your
normal voice.
2. Control and limit vocal loudness.
3. Balance extra vocal demands with voice rest.
4. Eliminate habitual and frequent throat clearing and excessive coughing
5. Avoid speaking in noisy environments and open spaces such as playgrounds.
6. Limit vocal use when ill.
7. Take frequent breaks while talking for extended period.
8. Maintain good posture and breathe through your nose while not speaking.
9. Keep dust exposure to minimum.
10. Maintain proper hydration. Drink at least 8-10 glasses of water
per day.
11. Have frequent intake of water during the day especially while teaching.
12. Be cautious with medications. Many can directly or indirectly affect
your voice.
13. Avoid caffeinated beverages like coffee, tea and colas.
14. Supplement your diet with rich proteins, green leafy vegetables,
milk and calcium.
15. Do not smoke.
16. Monitor / avoid alcohol intake.
17. Eat at regular intervals, avoid skipping meals or overeating.
18. Maintain general health and perform mild exercises (yoga / aerobics
/ walking).
19. Avoid intake of spicy, oily and fast foods.
20. Do not sing or mimic natural sounds or animal cries to train your
voice.
21. Do not sleep immediately after dinner.
22. Do not clench your teeth or tense your jaw and tongue while speaking
to make your speech more dramatic / attractive.
23. Consult a Speech-language pathologist or ENT doctor when your voice
is feeling sick.
